Hall receives Bi-Centennial award in Brisbane

Matt Hall has received the Australian Bi-Centennial Award for 2015 the Honourable Company of Air Pilots at a glittering ceremony in Brisbane.

The Lake Macquarie Airport based Red Bull Air Race star was recognised for his outstanding career in aviation by the organisation’s Australian Regional Committee.

The honour is awarded as an ongoing commemoration of the Bi-centenary to recognise outstanding individual contribution to Australian aviation.

The annual awards event was held in London last month but a full schedule prevented Hall from making the trip to the Old Dart, instead he was presented with his award in Brisbane.

Hall, a highly decorated former fighter pilot, said he was honoured to receive the award.

“When I first heard I’d been recommended for this award I was shocked,” Hall said.

“These sorts of awards are truly humbling but not something you think about when you go about the business of just doing your job to the best of your ability.

“I have dedicated my life to aviation – it’s a huge part of who I am – and I am very grateful to the Australian Regional Committee and Honourable Company of Air Pilots for recognising me.

“The award also recognises the contribution of my team around me, led by my family, who have helped me chase my dreams.”

Founded in London in 1929 as the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators, the Honourable Company of Air Pilots has as one of its aims the promotion of the highest standards of flight safety – something Hall preaches in his many key note speeches to aviation organisations and in his role as ambassador for the QBE Insurance Airmanship Program.

“I am very fortunate to be able to use my profile as a Red Bull Air Race pilot and as an ambassador for QBE’s Airmanship Program to encourage pilots to pursue safe and smart decision making practices and it makes this award that much more special that the Company of Air Pilots have similar values,” Hall said.
