Japan confirmed for 2019 Red Bull Air Race season
Chiba, Japan has been confirmed as a host city for a leg of the 2019 Red Bull Air Race World Championship today, with 2017 world champion Yoshihide Muroya and Red Bull Japan confirming the event at a press conference and later, on social media.
The Chiba event is slated for September 7-8, 2019 and is the second event officially confirmed for this year following a press release from Red Bull Air Race regarding the first event of 2019 last week. A full calendar for the impending season is yet to be announced.

Back in May 2018 Chiba was the location where Matt Hall claimed his second win of the season and launched himself into world championship contention. While Hall ultimately finished the season second behind Czech pilot Martin Šonka, it was in Japan where he emerged as a heavy hitter in the title race.
Since 2015 Chiba has become a regular fixture on the air race calendar, and despite Hall winning the 2018 edition, prior to that it had been a destination of mixed fortunes for the Aussie pilot.
On debut in Japan Hall claimed second place to the most successful air race pilot of all-time – 19-time race winner and three-time world champion Paul Bonhomme of the United Kingdom. Two lean years followed where Hall finished seventh and sixth respectively, before he finally landed as a victor.
His triumph in Japan also coincided with a weekend where fellow Aussie motorsport contenders Daniel Ricciardo and Will Power raced to first place in the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500 respectively.
With Abu Dhabi and Chiba now both locked in, fans will wait with bated breath to see the full 2019 calendar, which is expected to be released in the near future. Until then attention turns to the United Arab Emirates, where Hall will shoot for a maiden victory in Abu Dhabi.
The first leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship will begin on Friday February 8 with qualifying over the picturesque Abu Dhabi Corniche, before racing gets underway on Saturday February 9. You can purchase tickets for the race in Abu Dhabi HERE.
