A look back at AirVenture

The 2019 edition of AirVenture Australia in Parkes, NSW was one that we won’t forget for some time yet! This year we were onsite at the event courtesy of our sponsors OzRunways and were also on hand to work with another sponsor, QBE Insurance Australia. As it happened, lockr.aero were there as well, to ensure that three of our key sponsors in the aviation industry were all on site together!

Notwithstanding a great opportunity to catch up with the people we work with in the above mentioned organisations, AirVenture also provided us the chance to chat to a whole host of engaged members of the aviation community, be it pilots or fans. On the ground for the weekend was our photographer Henry Howard, who captured everything we got up to. So, without further delay, here is a pictorial look back at our time at AirVenture!

Keynote talks were a big part of the weekend. Matt often speaks to large and small organisations about his story, which encompasses everything from motivation to risk management. This weekend was no different, with plenty of people attending his talks and they asked a wide array of questions!

Sunday was the business day as Matt lit up the sky for his high-energy aerobatics display. Take note of that red text on the sill of the canopy – ‘EXPERIMENTAL’ – you know that means this thing is fast. The MXS-R race plane won four Red Bull Air Race events across the 2015 and 2016 season’s and is still one of the best performance aircraft in the world.

This show was courtesy of OzRunways, who have a sensational product that we really believe in, when you’re flying their app gives you situational awareness like never before. It acts like a full-featured GPS navigator! It may not look like it to the untrained eye, but even among all that smoke and racing from surface level to 3,500 feet in a few short seconds, the team at OzRunways always help Matt ensure he knows where he is going.

If you couldn’t make it to AirVenture, then you can catch Matt and the MXS-R in action next at the 2019 World Time Attack Challenge at Sydney Motorsport Park on October 19 OR at the RAAF Base Edinburgh Air Show in Adelaide from November 9-10.

Do you see the lady in the background. That’s Emma, and in this pic she is cleaning the MXS-R while Matt is visualising his display. But you see, there is something you should also know about Emma…

…Cleaning planes is not really her full time thing. She’s our operations manager and one of our joy flight pilots and has her name listed on our QBE insurance certificate to prove it! She is absolutely a customer favourite! We’ve always thought that if Emma could fly 365 days a year, she would. In 2020 we have a leap year and we’re sure she’s already plotting a way to fill that 366th day with yet another day in the sky.

But as much as we like Emma, it was Matt – the 2019 Red Bull Air Race WORLD CHAMPION – who was the man in demand, with plenty of fans after a picture and an autograph. It isn’t everyday that an outback Aussie fly-in ends up being the first public event for the newly crowned champ, but the reality is that is what happens when our partners are so deeply entrenched in the Aussie Aviation community…we get taken to places with them that just ooze the passion of Aussie general aviation.

So, until our next event, adios! Don’t forget that you can come flying with us any time at Lake Macquarie Airport – OR – if you reckon you can fill a weekend of flights with us in your hometown and you have a runway, we’ll see you there!
